This Lullaby

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen is a story about a girl named Remy. Her Mum has been through four failed marriages so she finds it hard to trust the men in her life. After her Dad passed away during her younger years, All she can remember her father by is a song, This Lullaby, with the memorable line, "I will let you down". But when a boy comes crashing into her life (that's totally the opposite of her), she is reminde of her father and simply can't stick to her own rules.

I like this book because Dessen has used realistic dialogue to bring Remy alive. Her world of emotional traumas and teen life clashes togetjer to make a story worth reading.

The 'Publishers Weekly' says: "This modern- day romance narrated by a cynical heroine offers a balance of wickedly funny moments and universal teen traumas."
The 'Kirkus Reviews' says: "Remy's voice rings true with realistic dialogue and emotional traumas. Insightful writing [and] distinctive characters ... compose a melody worth reading."
The 'Booklist' says: "Dessen is an absolutely wonderful writer- stylish, smart and funny.

I would give this book a star rating of 4 out of 5.
I would recomend it to teens who are interested in life stories and who would like to explore life in a more 'fantasy- like' world.

Last Chance by Sarah Dessen

I've finally finished this amazing book and eventually, Colie finds the friends and romance she's been dreaming of all her life. Colie has been sent to North Carolina by her mother for the summer. She works in the Last Chance Cafe and is hoping that this will be her last journey. All her life she's been travelling from place-to-place with her mother, until one day her mother became a famous tv host of a fitness programme. After that, her life changed forever.
I think this book is great because the author has used a combination of dialogue and humour to create a very emotional but 'real' story.
My favourite quotation from the book is: ' The rest of my early memories are all of the highway... Only a few things stayed the same. My mother and I were both fat... And we were always together, us against the world,'. I like this phrase because it says that even though she's changed she'll always remember her past.
I give this book a star rating of 4 out of 5!
